The Affirmative Action Law Coalition has criticized the composition of the government transition team, calling it problematic and urging an immediate correction to include more women.
The 24-member transition team comprises only four women—three from the outgoing government and one from the incoming government.

Speaking to Citi News, Becky Ahadzi, Coordinator of the Affirmative Action Law Coalition and a private legal practitioner, accused the transition team of violating the provisions of the recently assented Affirmative Action Law.

“From the figures we’ve seen from the incumbent government, we have less than 30%, the 3 out of 13 members do not even up to 15%. With the incoming government, we have 1 out of 11 which is less than 10% and we believe that this is very problematic and this is a flout of what the law is supposed to do”
“We’re calling on them that they should rectify it and ensure the adequate representation of women that needs to be seen on the transition team is reflected.”

Meanwhile, the Coalition says it is keenly watching and expecting full compliance with the law in the appointments by the President-Elect, John Dramani Mahama in his next government.
“We are hoping that the goodwill the people of Ghana have imposed on the incoming government will make them comply with the Affirmative Action law. We are keenly watching and we are going to hold them accountable.”
