Afram Plains: PWDs benefit from District Disability Fund
The Kwahu Afram Plains South District Assembly in the Eastern Region has distributed items worth over Ghc61,900 to about 18 Persons living With Disability in the Kwahu Afram Plains area.
The items donated at a colorful ceremony at the durbar grounds at Tease – the District capital, include, chest freezers, sowing machines, designing machines, cassava processing machines, neathing machines, ovens and its accessories, corn millers, pumping machines among others. They were purchased with the three percent share of the District Assembly Common Fund allocation.
According to Hon George Ofori “the purpose of this initiative by the Nana Akufo-Addo led government is to ensure a drastic reduction or a possible eradication of poverty among Ghanaians especially people with disabilities to prevent them from begging the streets”.
The DCE recounted how the fund was disbursed some years ago, “previously the two percent PWDs fund was distributed to beneficiaries in the form of cash which never helped them to achieve its purpose of eradicating poverty among our brothers and sisters, this is the reason why upon assumption of office, His Excellent Nana Akufo-Addo as the president of the Republic directed that the money should not be given to you in cash, rather it should be invested in an income earning trade of your choice. That is why we have these items before us today, they are what you requested”.
He called on other PWDs who did not receive anything from the presentation to hold their peace as the assembly is positioned to present another items later this year.
He assured them of the will power of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to continue serving the good people of Ghana till we all meet our expectation after advising the beneficiaries to make proper utilization of the items given to them as a monitoring team from the Assembly will not cease visiting them from time to time to assist and access their growth in business.
Chairman for the Kwahu Afram Plains South District branch of the Ghana Federation of Disabilities, on behalf of his staff and members expressed profund gratitude to the government and the District Chief Executive, for such a lifespan gift, while promising to use the items for the intended purpose.
