Africa on the Rise: Kenyatta University unveils Ventilators made by Students
A group of 16 Kenyatta University Students in Kenya from the Faculties of Engineering ,Pharmacy, Medicine and Nursing have in 7-Days under the Tutelage of their Deans developed a Prototype of a Ventilator using locally sourced Materials.
This Ventilator can be used by CoronaVirus Patients.
Kenya’s Industrialization Minister Betty Maina and the University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Wainaina attended the first Public Showcase of this Ventilator.
At a cost of Ksh.500,000($5000), this Team has said they can make up to 50 Ventilators in a Week.
They are now waiting for Formal Government Approval and Certification to start producing these much-needed Medical Gadgets in the wake of an increasing Number of Positive COVID-19 Patients in Kenya currently standing at 191 Confirmed Cases.
Currently,Kenya has 259 Ventilators with over half of them already in use by Patients with other Respiratory Diseases.
COVID_19 Virus causes Respiratory Disease hence a Ventilator is Essential in managing the Patients especially in severe Cases when the Infection destroys a Patient’s breathing System.
