African Games infrastructure cost $195 million – Sports Minister

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has revealed the facilities to host the 2023 African Games cost over $195 million.

The Borteyman Sports Complex, the University of Ghana Stadium and the Games Village are the major venues to host the competition with the government funding the construction and completion of these facilities.

Speaking in a Press Briefing earlier on Monday to provide updates ahead of the commencement of the games, Mustapha Ussif detailed the amount spent in ensuring the availability of the above-mentioned facilities.

“The funding of the projects, relating to the provision of facilities for the hosting and organisation of the Games, was good as all the contractors have been paid,” he said.

“The total contract sum for provision of facilities for the Games, approved by this August House, amounted to $195,2555,153.74.”

According to the breakdown he provided, Borteyman, which was constructed by Contracta Construction UK Limited, cost $145, 086,057.54, Consar Limited’s University of Ghana Stadium cost $34,102,135 while the Games Village, given to Mawums Limited, also came at a cost of $16,066,961.20.

The 2023 African Games commenced on Sunday, March 3, with the opening ceremony set for Friday, March 8.
