Afriyie Ankra Chastises CSOs For Silence On Gov’t Corruption

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called out Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the country for their apparent silence over corruption scandals under the current administration.

Speaking to the media, he said the presence of the organisations are not felt like they used to be in the era of NDC’s John Dramani Mahama and the late John Evans Atta Mills at a time when corruption scandals received appropriate responses from the government.

“If you look at our track record as a party and a government under President Mahama, all the issues that came up like GYEEDA, Bus branding, Victoria Hammah, you see that the government took action and it was very transparent.

“Look at what is happening now. Under Mills and Mahama you can look at about ten cases which were all investigated and the findings made public. Today, in almost a week or day, you can record one corruption and it’s swept under the carpet and the people are cleared. We don’t get access to the report.”

Commending the CSOs for their role played in the country’s governance, he noted they needed to buck up and play effectively.

“Now I’m not seeing the same intensity of advocacy…We expect to see a higher level, higher intensity so that the public will know what is going on.”
