Aggrieved Police personnel have thumbs to vote for Mr. John Mahama to restore peace, progress and prosperity in the Ghana Police Service! – Owula Mangortey writes from afar
I am aware that the Police maintains twenty five (25) Regional Police Commands in the sixteen administrative regions of Ghana.
(1). I arrived in Instanbul, Turkey, to discuss investment opportunities for the development of a post-conflict Bawku general area. The restoration of peace and development of the Bawku general area is top priority.
(2). Then, I read a writeup by an anonymous person – may be from another of the aggrieved self-confessed NPP-coloured senior Police Officers – titled, “DAMPARE HAS BOUGHT THE MEDIA IN GHANA.”
(3). My first reaction, which I shared with Abena, my secret lover (please don’t tell my wife of thirty years who is also called Abena), who is a female senior Police Officer was, “IGP AKUFO-DAMPARE must be very rich to buy the Media in Ghana – including the NDC-leaning Media!” Incredible!!
(4). After reading the grievances of this apparent senior Police Officer, I remarked to Abena that the aggrieved Police officers have the power of their thumbs to cause the changes they desire on 7th December, 2024!
(4). I think the aggrieved Police personnel have a unique opportunity to mobilise their colleagues, friends, family members, school mates, church/mosque members, personnel of sister security agencies TO VOTE FOR MR JOHN MAHAMA TO RESTORE PEACE, PROGRESS AND PROSPERITY IN THE GHANA POLICE SERVICE!
(5). I repeat! Section 7(1) of the Police Service Regulation, 2012 (C.I.76) states that, *”in accordance with article 202(3) of the 1992 Constitution, the power to appoint a person to hold or act in the Service shall vest in the President acting on the advice of the (Police) Council.”* It is obvious that the buck stops with President Billy Akufo-Addo, who appointed Dr Akufo-Dampare as the Inspector General of Police.
(6). It is common knowledge among the aggrieved self-confessed NPP-coloured Police Officers that Dr Timothy Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and currently the NPP Flagbearer, is the Chairman of the Police
Council, which advised President Akufo-Addo to appoint Dampare as the IGP!
(7). The aggrieved self-confessed NPP-coloured Police Officers are stating publicly that President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Timothy Mahamudu Bawumia have failed to take action on the following occurences in the Ghana Police Service under Dampare:
(a). “The killings of both police personnel and civilians by Dampare’s PID boys who report to him directly and have no respect for any Officer.”
(b). “Fraudulent recruitments.”
(c). “Dubious promotions.”
(d). “Illicit appointments contrary to laid down regulations.”
(e). “Divide and rule.”
(f). “Dissipation and misappropriation of Police funds.”
(g). “Distortions in comman- and-control (sic).”
(i). “Questionable award of contracts to cronies.”
(j). Disrespect to former IGPs and personnel”
(k). ” Disregard to existing regulations, policies, and rules.”
(l). “In the history of the Ghana Police Service, no IGP has empowered some police personnel to kill their own colleagues and civilians like Dampare. His PID operatives are rewarded with promotions whenever they succeed.”
(8). Instead of getting President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Timothy Mahamudu Bawumia to take action on the serious allegations against IGP AKUFO-DAMPARE, the aggrieved senior Police Officer made further serious allegations against some media personnel/houses and civilians they deemed to be supporters of IGP AKUFO-DAMPARE!!
(9). The anonymous writer stated that, “in this country today, if you criticise Dampare, prepare for an attack from the likes of the PID operatives, Professor Kwesi Aning, Franklin Cudjoe, Adam Bonaa, MP for Wa West Peter Tobu, Kwame A-Plus, Captain Smart, the entire Despite Group, City News, Owula Mangotttey (sic), and many more personalities who have benefitted immensely from Dampare, and continue to benefit from him.”
(9). It is common knowledge that some Police personnel take bribes. Can you imagine self-confessed NPP-coloured Police personnel who are chronic, habitual bribe takers stating publicly that they know that their Police boss is bribing Owula Mangortey?!
(10). I do respectfully invite the aggrieved, self-confessed NPP-coloured senior Police Officers to call me on 0501409696/0557544887, to direct me to the location where I can receive my portion of the largesse/benefits they stated that IGP AKUFO-DAMPARE is sharing. I will gladly donate my share of Dampare’s largesse/benefits to the orphans, widows and needy affected by the Bawku conflict since January/February 2022.
(11). I lived in Bawku from November 2021 to December 2023, and monitored/reported on policing activities during the Kusasi/Mamprusi conflict for Ghananewsonline. I was aware of, and experienced the excellent policing methods of IGP AKUFO-DAMPARE and his Commanders and personnel in Bawku and other flashpoints for criminal activities in the following communities in the Upper East Region: Kobore Junction, along the 12km Kobore to Sapeliga road, Are-you-ready? on the Tilli to Binaba road, along the Binduri to Atoba road, along the Sandema to Fumbisi road, along the Misiga to Pulimakom/Widana road, along the Bolgatanga-Wulugu-Walewale highway, and at Doba-Kandiga.
(12). Even though my major focus was on the Ghana Armed Forces’ counter-terrorism operations in border communities in the Northern Axis, I also kept taps on IGP AKUFO-DAMPARE’s efforts to expand, train and equip the Police Service, especially the FPU bases throughout the country.
(13). I am aware that the Police maintains twenty-five (25) Regional Police Commands in the sixteen (16) administrative regions of Ghana.
(14). I am aware that the current strength of Ghana Police Service is five thousand personnel (5000).
(15). I am aware that the Police strength is expected to increase to six thousand (6000) personnel by the end of 2025.
(16). I am aware that there are one hundred and thirty (130) FPU bases nationwide.
(17). I am aware that the FPU bases will be increased to one hundred and fifty (150) by November/December 2024.
(18). I am aware that two hundred and twenty-five (225) FPU bases are expected to be established nationwide.
(19). For public education purposes, I wish to state the useful purpose of the FPU for our national stability and security. Fellow Ghanains, the Formed Police Unit (FPU) is a specialized police unit established by President John Mahama in 2014 to support the Ghana Police Service in maintaining law and order, and ensuring public safety. The FPU is trained to handle high-risk situations, such as riot control, counter-terrorism, and special operations. They are also deployed for peacekeeping missions and other international assignments.

(b). Equipment: They are equipped with modern weapons, protective gear, and vehicles to enhance their operational effectiveness.
(c). Rapid deployment: FPU teams can be quickly deployed to respond to emergencies and critical situations.
(d). Expertise: They have specialized skills in areas like hostage rescue, bomb disposal, and counter-terrorism tactics.
(e). International engagement: The FPU has participated in international peacekeeping missions, such as the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
(20). Finally, I repeat my call on the aggrieved senior Police Officers. Since they are dissatisfied with President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Timothy Mahamudu Bawumia’s oversight of the work of IGP AKUFO-DAMPARE, the senior Police officers must mobilise to use their thumbs to vote for President Mahama in December 2024 to restore peace, progress and prosperity in the Ghana Police Service.
(21). Until the aggrieved senior Police Officers vote for President Mahama to change the government on 7th December, 2024, or until the IGP’s resignation or constitutional discharge from office, DR. AKUFO-DAMPARE remains our IGP.!
(22). The aggrieved self-confessed NPP-coloured senior Police Officers may hate to love him or love to hate him, but they must know that there are discerning Ghanaians who can see through their jaundiced, self-serving, self- destructive NPP-coloured political machinations to remove IGP AKUFO-DAMPARE!
We no go sit down for that to happen. Walahi!!
I shall return.
