Agyapa Deal: CSOs demand copies of Revised Document

election2024

Following President Akufo-Addo’s announcement that the Agyapa Royalties Deal will be brought back to Parliament for consideration, some Civil Society Organisations are asking for copies of the Revised Agyapa Deal document.

This, they say, will enable them to ensure that all the questionable corruption risk issues have been properly dealt with.

Dr. Steve Manteaw who is leading the advocates also suggests the convening of a National Consultation on the Agyapa Royalties Deal so as to win the support of citizens.

In a run-up to the 2020 election following the release of a report by the Special Prosecutor, President Akufo-Addo suspended the Agyapa Royalties deal, directing the Finance Minister and the Attorney General to incorporate concerns raised by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

Dr. Manteaw wants the Revised Agyapa Deal circulated among Civil Society Organizations for broader Stakeholder consultation, before it is presented back to Parliament.

Explaining the CSOs position further in an interview with GBC’s Rebecca Ekpe, Dr. Manteaw said it is not enough to just say the Agyapa deal is good or bad.

Dr. Manteaw says government must also focus more on investing in educating the people on the Agyapa deal.
