Ahiagbah Learns of KATH Deficiencies after Accident
In a post following his release from the hospital for almost three weeks, he admitted his bitter lesson and acknowledged the myriad “deficiencies” of the hospital.
The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has become familiar with the challenges that confront the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), however, through a bitter experience.
After his near-death accident which took him to the dilapidated 70-year-old health facility- which has not received any comprehensive renovation since its construction with governments coming and ignoring the loud cry for attention- for medical attention.
In a post following his release from the hospital for almost three weeks, he admitted his bitter lesson and acknowledged the myriad “deficiencies” of the hospital.
“Fighting to hold on to dear life at KATH has been very frightening and painful. But through it all, I have learned firsthand the extreme deficiencies and prospects of Ghana’s healthcare delivery system.”
He now plans to establish a Non-Governmental Organisation to advocate and assist the facility.
“From this experience will arise a Turning Point Foundation to promote a people-centered, outcome-driven health policy regime in Ghana.”
The politician was involved in an accident on Saturday, July 27, 2024 on his way to
Kumasi for a party programme. He was discharged on August 16, 2024.
In 2023, the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II launched a drive to raise US$10 million for the renovation of the Old Gee Block of the hospital.
