An aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Edudzi Tamakloe, has dismissed suggestions that the bribe paid by global aerospace company, Airbus, to facilitate the purchase of 3 aircrafts by Ghana was received by John Drama Mahama, flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress.
He insisted neither John Mahama, late Atta Mills or any of their appointees took bribes to sanction the acquisition of the aircrafts from Airbus.
His comments follow a court ruling over an Airbus bribery scandal in which the Mills-Mahama governments have been implicated.
Investigations conducted by the United Kingdom’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) into the operations of the UK-based aerospace manufacturing giant, Airbus, disclosed that a top-ranking elected government official during the Mills-Mahama administrations took bribes to award high-value contracts to the company.
The said official (Government Official 1), according to the Crown Court at Southwark, between 2009 and 2015, connived with a close relative (intermediary 5) to get the government of Ghana to procure 3 aircraft from Airbus for a commission of ‘approximately €5 million’.
