The Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) – Ghana’s leading private technology university now has a 24-hour free-to-air television station operating from its ultra-modern studios at Kokomlemle in Accra. This makes AIT the first university in Ghana to operate its own commercial television broadcasting station.
Known as the AIT-TV, the station is currently operating under the AIT Broadcasting Network which also houses the Knowledge City Campus (KCC) or the main campus of the university. Ghananewsonline.com.gh has gathered that the school received its operational license in 1999, however, it was until February 2020 that it commenced operations. AIT-TV intends to cover countries in the West and Central Africa sub-regions with programs targeted education, News, and entertainment, among others.
These were revealed by the President of the AIT, Professor Clement Dzidonu on Saturday, August 29, 2020 when he addressed the university’s 15th graduation ceremony in Accra. A total 201 students successfully passed out with postgraduate and undergraduate degrees. The postgraduates include Five Doctors of Philosophy (PhDs), 17 PhD Candidates and 52 Master’s Degrees. The undergraduates include 197 Bachelor’s Degrees from the main university and 15 Bachelor’s degrees from Open University.

Of the 197 who graduated from the main campus 21 of them obtained First Class Honours, 47 of them obtained Second Class Honours (Upper Division), 127 obtained Second Class Honours (Lower Division) and two of them obtained Third Class.
“It is my great honour and privilege to announce that we are today graduating for the 7th time, PhDs who studied at this university. These major achievements of a university that is barely 10 years old make AIT the first private university in Ghana to successfully offer and graduate students on an internationally benchmarked PhD program. This is no small achievement if put within the context of the fact that PhD per capita of Ghana is extremely low….we can claim that we have become one of the leading postgraduate research institutions on the continent,” Prof. Dzidonu stated.
He said the school has become mindful of the need to provide high standard tertiary education and training to produce job creators with the requisite entrepreneurial skills and expertise to set up and run their own corporations in various fields and they would continue to live up to expectation.
“As a research university, our focus on cutting-edge research work through our postgraduate programs and research initiatives are geared towards supporting the nation’s Science, Technology and Innovations (STI) drive towards developing a modern knowledge-based and wealth-generating economy in the information and technological age,” he noted.
On the Covid-19 global pandemic, Prof. Dzidonu said following the halting of face-to-face teaching and learning activities in schools, the management has taken series of measures to enable it to continue its general academic and administrative operations to ensure that the students continue their studies without interruptions.
“The COVID-19 is still with us but we as a university have moved on and made progress on a number of fronts. AIT has been using technology to support teaching and learning since its inception, 10 years ago. On the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the university took steps to revamp its teaching and learning support technologies, systems, and learning resources and put in place quality assurance protocols to guide faculty and students to engage in quality online teaching and learning without difficulty,” he added.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the School, Prof. Edward Ayensu, urged the graduating class to cherish the opportunity they had to study at the institute and be proud of every moment they spent there learning.
The occasion was also used to honor some deserving staff and students of the school.
The Overall Best Graduating Students (Male) went to Asahkey Aikins with Esther Atari Anagha taking the Overall Best Graduating Student (Female) award. The Best Auxiliary staff went to Doris Boatemaa, Best Senior Administrator went to Haruna Anass while the Best Junior Administrator went to Billy Kobina Enos. Michael Asomani Pobbi took the Most Published Faculty Award.
