Akufo-Addo Administration accused of Midnight Contracts as ADB Board Approves $750,000 Deal Under Controversy
Ablakwa’s statement also comes with a stern warning to public officials who may yield to unlawful pressure to process payments
In a damning revelation, Chairman of the ORAL Committee and MP for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has once again accused officials of the outgoing Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration of engaging in last-minute, questionable contracts and rushing to effect payments before their term ends on January 7, 2025.
The latest allegation ftom Ablakwa centers on the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), where the Board is said to have approved a contentious $750,000 electronic servicing agreement just three days ago.
According to intercepted memos and insider sources, the deal with Virtual Security Africa (VSA) has sparked outrage within ADB. Some Senior staff are reportedly baffled by the Board’s decision, as the contract has yet to be audited or finalized. Negotiations with the vendor remain incomplete, with the primary agreement still in draft form. Despite these irregularities, political pressure allegedly demands full payment of the GHS12 million contract by December 27, 2024.
This revelation follows a pattern of what Ablakwa describes as “sleazy midnight contracts,” which, he claims, have become rampant in the final days of the current government. The MP further disclosed that the President-elect’s Transition Team had issued clear warnings against such deals, mirroring similar cautionary measures demanded by the NPP during the 2016 transition period.
Ablakwa’s statement also comes with a stern warning to public officials who may yield to unlawful pressure to process payments. He emphasized that accountability would follow swiftly after January 7, 2025, once the new administration takes office.
“These actions are reckless and unpatriotic,” Ablakwa stated.
This new revelation raises questions about transparency and governance during the transition period and sets the stage for potential investigations into the conduct of outgoing government officials.
