Akufo-Addo-Bawumia Administration struggling to finish One Amphitheater out of the Nine Theater Manifesto Promise.
It’s clear that this government did not only lie to the industry but destroyed and neglected the industry to its faith.
Focap has seen pictures and videos of a yet to be completed Amphitheater being constructed in Kumasi, and it’s quite unfortunate how this government doesn’t take the Creative Art sector seriously.
As we’re all aware, this government in their 2016 manifesto promised the Creative Arts Sector Nine(9) Ultramodern Theaters if they win the elections.
We’re in March, 2024 that’s 8years after elections and officially their last term in office, and they are yet to complete even one(1) single theatre.
Last year, in April 2023, the Deputy Minister of Arts Mr Mark Okraku Mantey informed the industry that they were unable to build the ultramodern THEATERS, but they would rather commission one(1) AMPHITHEATER in Kumasi in July 2023.
This morning we’ve seen videos and pictures of a supposed Amphitheater in Kumasi, which is still at the digging, filling, and concrete level.
It’s obvious that this government has never taken the Creative sector seriously and it clearly showed last week when it used 4 excavators to destroyed a 5,000,000 dollar 20,000 capacity venue used by Creatives when it has not been able to put up a 500,000 dollar 1000 capacity venue for Creatives.
It’s clear that this government did not only lie to the industry but destroyed and neglected the industry to its faith.
Focap is actually not surprised as to how some of their footsoldiers are praising the mediocre performance of their government and that is to be expected but we hope the government will look beyond its footsoldiers and attend to the needs of industry as promised before they leave office else it will be the worse performing government with regards to the Creative sector we’ve ever had in this country.
Focap will like to remind the Ministry of Tourism Arts & Culture which is in charge of this sector to keep us updated with regards to industry matters instead of leaving its duties to footsoldier groups who will only be fan fooling.
