Akufo-Addo’s achievement in educational sector unmatched in Ghana’s history – Napo

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Education Minister, has suggested that success chalked by the governing New Patriotic Party, led by President Akufo-Addo, in the education sector is second to none in the history of Ghana, ABC News can report.

According to the Manhyia South legislator, the country’s education sector has seen an “unprecedented” improvement as a result of the prudent policies and programmes that have been introduced by the Akufo-Addo-led government.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh indicated that not even the much-touted achievements of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the education sector can match those of the New Patriotic Party’s government in three years.

He asserted for instance that the bold introduction of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy by the government has increased access to secondary education, indicating that students’ population has increased by a whopping 400,000 – from 800, 000.

This means there are currently 1.2 million students beneficiaries of the Free SHS policy.

He made the remarks at a brief ceremony where he handed over an AstroTurf pitch to his constituents in Manhyia South.

“Free Education is a project in evolution. We have done well under the leadership of his Excellency the President. The third-year students of the Free SHS programme are in school. Generally, we haven’t heard anything, but when you live in Accra and Kumasi, you will think that things are falling apart.

“But when you go across the country if we have been able to move the population to 800,000 to nearly 1.2 million; 400,000 more students, ask yourself, if we still remained in the old dispensation, what would have happened to these students?” he stated.

“what we have achieved in the educational sector is unprecedented in the annals of the history of this country. Not even Kwame Nkrumah achieved what we have done,” Dr. Opoku Prempeh touted

He, therefore, appealed to Ghanaians to vote to retain the NPP in power come 2020 elections as a reward of the government’s good works.
