A founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced his immediate resignation from the party.

According to him, intimidation and assault of his supporters left him with no option but to resign from the party.

Mr Kyerematen, despite finishing third in the first round of the NPP’s flagbearer selection, which reduced the candidate pool from ten to five contenders, decided to withdraw from the upcoming November 4 congress. He alleged bias within the party’s leadership, claiming favouritism toward a particular candidate.

Mr Kyerematen announced his resignation at a press conference held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel.

The former Trade Minister also revealed that he will be contesting the 2024 general elections as an Independent Presidential Candidate.

“I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate.
