Former President John Dramani Mahama has taken a swipe at president Nana Akufo-Addo for saying he does not respond to presidential aspirants.
Recently, President Nana Akufo-Addo said he will not respond to any of the main opposition National Democratic Congress’ flag bearer aspirants until they are duly elected as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2020 polls.
“I’m sure you have seen and heard some of the presidential aspirants of the leading opposition party taking jabs at my government in order, ostensibly, to prop up their campaign,” the president said.
His assertions follow the recent criticisms from Mr Mahama against his government, saying Ghanaians are facing hardship under Akufo-Addo.
But speaking at the NDC’s National Delegates Congress at the Fantasy Dome at the Ghana International Trade Fare Centre, Mr Mahama who wants to be elected to lead the party ahead of 2020, said the president spoke as though the aspirants are not Ghanaians.
“All presidential aspirants are also citizens [and] not spectators,” Mr Mahama said contesting the president’s stance on who should criticise his government.
