Appiate: Nananom, Traditiona Council console Victims of Explosion
The high-powered delegation was led by Awulai Atibrukusu III, Omanhene of Lower Axim Traditional Area, and the immediate past Vice President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs.
Members of the Western Regional House of Chiefs (WRHC) and the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council have paid a consoling visit to the victims of the Apiate accident to commensurate with them.
The high-powered delegation was led by Awulai Atibrukusu III, Omanhene of Lower Axim Traditional Area, and the immediate past Vice President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs.
Briefing ghananewsonline.com.gh in his office at Tarkwa, the Registrar for the Council, Mr. Seth Opoku, stated that the delegation, which included the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) was there to find firsthand information on the incident. He pointed out that being part of the Traditional area and also WRHC, it was necessary for the delegation to be well informed of what actually led to the sad incident that has killed and displayed some residents of the town. While saying that this will not be a-nine day wonder, Mr. Opoku pointed out that their visit served as an emotional relief for the people, who saw their traditional leaders for the first time after their traumatic experience. He indicated that they will make follow up visits so as to bring back smiles on the faces of the hither to traumatized people.
Mr. Opoku, on behalf of the delegation expressed gratitude to the government for the swift action to alleviate the hardship of the people. Also the delegation was grateful to the Catholic Church at Bogoso for allowing their premises to be used as a “Refuge and Settlement” site for the people. They also expressed gratitude to the Police, Fire Service, The Red Cross, NADMO, The UN Refugee Unit for their canopies, as well as others who in diverse ways assisted the traumatized people in their trying moments. He revealed that their visit was necessitated because of the scarcity and diverse speculative information they were receiving from the spot. He maintained that now that they had gathered sufficient information on the matter, they will convey an emergency meeting on how best to reach out to the victims.
Corroborating to this, Nana Kwasi Ampong, Akyeamehene of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, who also doubles as chief of Asikumah added his voice of gratitude to all and sundry,who had in all ways, reached out to the people of Appiate in their traumatic period. He indicated that as traditional leaders of the people, it was only proper for them to visit them in their trying moments. Nana Ampong thanked specially the UN Refugee Global Resource and the Bogoso Catholic Church for their wonderful assistance to the people of Appiate in their traumatic moments.
