Applause For Dr. Prempeh For Keeping The Lights On During Festivities

Sections of Ghanaians have applauded the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for his hard work that enabled the whole country to have electricity during the Yuletide.
For the second time in a row, Ghanaians did not experience erratic power supply during the Christmas festivities.
Just like last year, Dr. Prempeh and his team put in serious measures that ensured that the lights were on in every part of the country.
Various social activities that brought in lots of foreigners went on successfully at various places without hitches because of availability of electricity.
The people of Ashanti Region especially enjoyed the yuletide more than any other people because for some time they had witnessed erratic power supply during the period over the years.
How Did It Work?
The Kumasi -Kintampo section completed and energized to improve the voltages in the Ashanti and Northern Regions. This completes the entire 330kV Kumasi –Bolgatanga Transmission line which supports exporting power to the Burkina Faso through the existing 225kV interconnection line. The 330KV Kumasi-Bolgatanga Transmission Line Project at Anwomaso, covers a distance of approximately 550km and has increased transmission capacity to meet growing demand in Ashanti, northern Ghana and beyond.
It has also contributed to the reduction of transmission line overloads and associated high transmission losses and improved voltages particularly in Ashanti, Bono and Bono East Regions.
The relocation of the Ameri Power Plant to Kumasi together with the completion of Gas pipeline construction at Anwomaso is progressing steadily.
Bulk Supply Points in Kasoa and Pokuase operational, contributing to grid and power stability and the massive support to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to become viable and clamping down on commercial, technical and system losses, with the minister keeping tabs on the ECG revenue protection task force.
Under the sterling leadership of Dr. Prempeh, current electricity access rate in Ghana stands at 88.54%
