Embattled Assistant Commissioner of Police (retired) Benjamin Agordzo has said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Akufo Dampare will now be more effective in discharging his duties because of the appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Deputy IGP.

According to him, the IGP was doing too much work but now somebody will be given directives and reporting to him to bring relief to the IGP.

“They were all reporting to the Inspector General of Police which means that the IGP may be doing too much. And so when he is not there it becomes a challenge so this time around, the IGP could be a bit relieved and his work will be much more effective because somebody will be given directives and reporting to him. There is no conflict at all because we have had him before and there was no conflict.” Benjamin Agordzo  said this in an interview with the media.

His comment comes after President Akufo-Addo appointed COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.

Yohuno’s appointment generated a lot of reactions on social media since some people believe Nana Addo wants to remove the IGP from his post.

But Agordzo stated that there is no conflict of interest in Yohuno’s appointment.

“He doesn’t take over the position of the IGP, he must directly supervise some of these people who must report through him to the Inspector General of Police. And in case there is administration then you see that that person will be dealing with technical issues, he may be dealing with department of services, may be dealing with research and planning, may be dealing with Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) all these people come under administration so there is no duplication here at all.” He stated.

“It doesn’t mean that Mr. Yohuno is going to take the Director General Operations’s job. No. His supervisory work is expanded. When he was Director General administration, he was doing routine work, because routine work of signing documents, giving directives through the IGP but those departments were not reporting to him directly, no.” He added
