AR: FDA, Police collaborate to arrest peddlers of Unregistered Drugs

John Laryea Adai Tetey, the Ashanti  Regional Head of FDA said at press briefing that the exercise was conducted to bring the offenders to comply with the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851 .

Ashanti Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in collaboration with the South Suntreso Police have arrested some unscrupulous people peddling in unregistered drugs.

The arrests were made in a swoop on unregistered drugs at community Information Centers in the Kumasi Metropolis.

John Laryea Adai Tetey, the Ashanti  Regional Head of FDA said at press briefing that the exercise was conducted to bring the offenders to comply with the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851.

According to him, the authority is mandated to ensure that, Medicine, Foods and Tobacco and all other food products meet standards as well as ensuring that those perpetrating the illegality are punished.

Mr. Tetey stated that, the staff sometimes work beyond working hours to make sure they sanitize the market against these unscrupulous people trading illegally.

He cautioned that anyone found selling unregistered drugs or food products would face the law, emphasizing further that community information centers that advertise or help sell such products would not be left off the hook.

Mr. Tetey advised the public to always visit registered health facilities, pharmacist or health shops for the proper diagnoses of their ailments.
