The management and teachers of Asafora Vocational and Technical Institute which is under the Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills (ICCES), in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central region, are calling on the government, organizations and other philanthropists to go to their aid with infrastructure and other learning tools and equipment.
The 19 year old institution which offers six different skilled courses, according to the Acting manager, Richard FK Otoo, runs with only five classrooms which also serve as workshops during their practicals.
“An institution offering six courses should at least have not less than 18 classrooms but in our case we are having only five rooms, aside that there is no bungalow and hostel or boarding facilities for any of the 15 teachers and the students we have here…..and looking at the location of the school with all these amenities not available, it makes both teaching and learning difficult,” He added.
The acting manager made these in an interview with Kojo Ata Kakrah Abrowah at the sidelines of a graduation ceremony the school had for its 2019 gradunds over the last weekend.
In all, 23 out of the 28 students who completed graduated.
Speaking on the theme “Empowering the youth in vocational and technical training”, the main speaker for the occasion, Mr Anthony Sampson, the Assistant headmaster, Administration, of the Saltpond Methodist Senior High School, outlined the importance and the need for prioritization of vocational and technical education and called on government and other relevant stakeholders to among other things, organize seminars to educate the youth to attend vocation and technical training, finance the youth to attend vocation and technical training by granting the youth with scholarships, provide resources and other needed facilities to vocational and technical institutions and also give priority to graduates who completed vocational and technical training during job placement.
Anomabo Area of Boys and Girls Club of Ghana, (BGCG) a Non-Governmental Organization, in addition to its numerous supports to the institution, donated two full sets of hairdryer to the school’s hairdressing department.
