Kumasi Asante Kotoko have fired their head coach CK Akonnor weeks after leading them to secure CAF Champions League qualification.

The former Black Stars captain is reported to have told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM: ”Yes it’s true I am no more the coach of Kotoko. I have been asked to step aside but to take over as technical director. I can’t comment.”

Akonnor was appointed Kotoko coach in October last year and guided the Porcupine Warriors to play in the Group stage of the CAF Confederation.

He steered the club to win the Normalisation Committee Special Competition last month to advance.

Akonnor previously handled Eleven Wise, Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC and AshantiGold.
