Officials from the Asokwa Municipal Assembly have had the Chief of Nahinso, Nana Addo Boaman, arrested for carrying out road repairs without official authorization.

Nana Boaman, who was detained and later granted bail over the weekend, explained that he took the initiative due to the authorities’ failure to address a worsening road situation that has been causing severe flooding in the area despite repeated appeals from residents and motorists.

For years, residents and drivers in Nahinso, a community within the Asokwa Municipality bordering the Bosomtwi District and Oforikrom Municipality, have suffered from the poor condition of the road network. The construction work was abandoned after the drains were built, exacerbating the issues faced by road users.

In response to the deteriorating road conditions, Nana Boaman began filling the pits and repairing the road to make it more passable. However, Asokwa Municipal Assembly officials intervened, emphasizing that he had not obtained the necessary permissions for these repairs.

Nana Boaman was arrested by the Asokwa District Command but was granted bail shortly thereafter. The Assembly argues that the Chief did not follow proper procedures before initiating the road works.

Despite the arrest and ongoing threats, Nana Boaman remains resolute. He stated, “I will not give up on fixing the road,” underlining his commitment to improving the situation for his community.
