Police at the Konongo Division of the Ashanti Region have successfully intercepted a robbery operation, arresting four men and recovering two AK-47 rifles along with ammunition.
The suspects were allegedly travelling from Kumasi to Konongo to commit robbery when the operation took place on Sunday (13 October) around 7:00 p.m.
Sources familiar with the development say the Konongo Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent/Mr Frederick Asare Mensah received intelligence from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in Kumasi about the movement of an Urvan bus with registration number AS 4353-15.
Acting swiftly, the Konongo Taskforce, led by No. 46259 G/Sgt. Felix Kofi Sekyere was dispatched to intercept the vehicle, the source said.
The bus, driven by Shadrack Anartey, had three passengers on board: Emmanuel Agyei Donkor, Abu Ali, and Abubakar Buba, a Nigerian national. A search of the vehicle revealed two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, and 86 rounds of ammunition hidden in a concealed compartment.
All four men were arrested on the spot, and the firearms and ammunition were seized as evidence. The vehicle has been impounded, while the suspects remain in police custody for further investigation.
The suspects and exhibits have since been transferred to the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) in Kumasi for a thorough investigation.
