In effect, it should be the treasurer who should be held responsible. But since it is not the treasurer who distributed the money, why must we suffer for the disbursement of the money?”

Some Greater Accra Regional Executives of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have accused the Regional Chairman, Emmanuel Ashie Moore of pocketing an amount of money earmarked by former President Mahama as transportation for delegates during the just-ended party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.

According to the NDC’s Greater Accra Regional Secretary, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, the regional chairman assumed responsibility for disbursing the funds in violation of laid down rules and processes.

He said Mr Ashie Moore did not hand over an amount of money meant for the transportation of delegates to the Regional Treasurer who is in charge of such disbursements.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi News, Mr Tetteh Chaie said since Mr. Ashie Moore did the disbursement of the funds he must be held solely responsible for any issues associated with it.

“Well, these are monies for delegates, and there was a channel for distribution. What I’m saying is that the resources were not distributed by the regional treasurer. It was the regional chairman who did the disbursement. The resources were put into our account, and it happened that the resources were withdrawn. And it is the party’s regional chairman who disbursed the money, so the regional executives do not hold that responsibility. In effect, it should be the treasurer who should be held responsible. But since it is not the treasurer who distributed the money, why must we suffer for the disbursement of the money?” he questioned.

The comments of Mr Chaie follow concerns by some delegates that they didn’t receive the money Mr Mahama promised.

Ahead of the May 13 primaries, Mr Mahama’s team handed over an amount of GH¢40 as transport money after voting o the party for onward distribution to each of the over 300,000 delegates.
