Asogli Traditional Council Enforces Funeral Ban Ahead of 2024 Yam Festival

The Asogli Traditional Council in the Volta Region, exercising its authority, has announced a temporary ban on funerals within the Asogli traditional area, effective from Monday, August 12, through Monday, October 8, 2024, in preparation for the upcoming 2024 Yam Festival.

The decision, communicated in a press statement signed by Secretary Stephen Tetteh on July 8, 2024, aims to ensure a peaceful and successful celebration of the Te Za festival. Te Za, a significant annual event celebrated in September by the chiefs and people of the Asogli traditional area, holds a key role in fostering community cohesion.

Paramount Chief Togbe Afede XVI and chiefs and queens emphasized the importance of adhering to the ban. They highlighted that it would facilitate community cohesion, ensure the festival’s success, and provide:

A conducive environment for community bonding.

Expressing gratitude to God and ancestral spirits.

Fundraising for local development projects.

Supporting educational initiatives for disadvantaged youth within the traditional area.

Residents and stakeholders are urged to cooperate fully to maintain the sanctity of the festival period and contribute to the overall prosperity of the Asogli community, underscoring their crucial role in the success of the event.
