Asuogyaman: Traditional Council threatens to ban DCE for Life

Traditional Authorities of Anum Traditional Council in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region has given a seven day ultimatum to the District Chief Executive of Asuogyaman to apologize or face a ban from entering Communities under their jurisdiction.

This was revealed at a press briefing by the traditional authority last Friday at the Green Hills guest house at Anum.

The DCE Samuel Kwame Agyekum is said to have described the Adontenhene of Anum who is also the Acting President of the Anum Traditional Council ,Okogyeaman Nenye Kwasi Anyani V as a “lair and greedy” person. He made the remarks during a radio interview on Rite FM last week after the Chief had requested from the Assembly their share of donations from the government and other benevolent organisation to the District Assembly to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The traditional state alleged that it had only received one Veronica bucket, one bowl, one bottle of liquid soap and a roll of tissue paper from the Assembly as part of donations received to fight the virus in about twenty communities and villages under the traditional state.

Reading the statement on behalf of the Traditional Council, Isaac Osei Ayesu the spokesperson of the council noted that “the DCE cannot take us for granted as we have not taken his radio comments lightly and would summon him before the council if he doesn’t do the needful”.

He also stressed that Anum Traditional Council has received only one Veronica bucket but not two as alleged by the DCE. The said Veronica bucket was received on the April 6, 2020, at the palace of the Adontenhene.

We have gathered that the Asuogyaman District Assembly has so far received about Ghc 236,280.00 from the government of Ghana and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to fight the Covid 19 Pandemic, however, it seems not to reflect in the various communities as most of the people in the District find it difficult to observe the hand washing protocol introduced by the government.

The Queenmother of the Anum state, Nana Ama Korantemaa I, in an interview with ghananewsonline.com.gh, lamented the fact that the area has been neglected as if it does not count in the sight of the District Assembly. She emphasized that “we will not entertain such abominable act from the District Chief Executive, it is an insult to our customs, so we have as customs demand slaughter a ram for purification as we give the DCE three days from today to do the needful”.

She announced that the traditional authority has procured and distributed over 2000 nose masks and a number of sanitizers to their subjects.

Okogyeaman Nenye Kwasi Anyane V, applaud President Akufo-Addo for his timely interventions towards the fight against the novel coronavirus, advising the President to demand probity and accountability from his appointees, especially the District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman. He said they the people of the Anum Traditional Council have not benefited from any of his interventions to fight the pandemic apart from a Veronica bucket, a bottle of liquid soap, a bowl, and a roll of tissue paper which was presented to the council in his palace by the Assembly Member of Anum Amoanda Electoral Area, Frank Ayesu.
