Atwima Nwabiagya North: Rainstorm destroys primary and JHS school blocks in Asuofua
According to him, the school structure looked weak in view of the lack of maintenance and renovation work on it, thereby making it develop cracks and other defects.
A rainstorm hit parts of the Ashanti Region last Tuesday night, destroying classroom blocks at Asuofua R/C Primary School in the Atwima Nwabiagya North district.
Strong winds accompanied the rains, which lasted about an hour, ripping off the roofs of about 15 classrooms, including the primary school block’s office and computer lab, and collapsing the JHS block, leaving the furniture and teaching and learning materials vulnerable to rain.
Speaking with Hon. Michael Osei Kwaku, Assembly Member for Asuofua-Asamang electoral area, he noted that the school would require extensive repairs to return to normalcy.
He said the school has not received help from the government.
He added that, apart from the roof that had been ripped off, the building was also in a deplorable state.
He said the building last saw some repair work done on it many years ago.
According to him, the school structure looked weak in view of the lack of maintenance and renovation work on it, thereby making it develop cracks and other defects.
He observed that it was a good omen that the school was not in session at the time the rainstorm occurred.
