Auditor General’s report: ECG cited for irregularities in procurement breaches

These include overpayment of mobilization fees and procurement with no consideration for value for money. According to the report, five sampled payments advice with a face value of over GH¢14 million as mobilization fees paid to contractors for civil works were over paid.

The 2021 Auditor-General’s Report has revealed some irregularities in the operations of the Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG).

These include overpayment of mobilization fees and procurement with no consideration for value for money. According to the report, five sampled payments advice with a face value of over GH¢14 million as mobilization fees paid to contractors for civil works were over paid.

A computation disclosed that Management of ECG paid between 20%-30% of the sampled contract prices as mobilization fees instead of 15% as required by law.

The ECG was also cited for overpayment of mobilization fees.

Meanwhile a section of the public is calling for improved service delivery from utility providers as tariffs go up tomorrow.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission announced earlier this month that consumers will be paying 21.55% more for water and 27.15% more for electricity.

However, the Electricity Company of Ghana in a statement says its customers will also pay for statutory levies and other fixed charges in addition.
