Barima Sydney runs away from frontline politics in Ghana
Sydney was an original member of Nananom which also included Omanhene Pozoh, and Jyoti Chandler (Ohemaa).
Controversial anti-corruption song maker, Barima Sydney, also known as the Rap Ninja, has disclosed that he will not engage in frontline politics in the future. This is againat the expectations of some of his followers who have always been under the assumption that the celebrated singer was going to follow the footsteps of the likes of A Plus, Obuor among others who all started as musicians but are now into active pooitics.
Barima Sydney made this disclosure on in an interview with Dambai based Oti Radio, 101.5 FM on the ‘Year under Review’ programme monitored by ghananewsonline.com.gh.
In the interview hosted by Augustine Kumah (Born Seven), an award winning Radio Presenter in the Oti Region, Rap Ninja says even though his songs are aimed at fighting corruption and other ills in society, he will not venture into frontline politics in Ghana.
Meanwhile, Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus) who is also known for making songs against corruption and bad governance has won the Gomoa Central Parliamentary seat in the Central Region of Ghana in the 2024 Parliamentary Elections.
According to Barima Sydney, frontline politics is not something he may want to engage in; however he will continue to play other roles in ensuring Africans get the development they deserve from their various leaders.
The experienced hits maker says it is time for Africa to move in a direction that will favour its people and assures that he is of a firm belief that “the system shall change for the better.”
Sydney was an original member of the Nananom group which also included Omanhene Pozo, and Jyoti Chandler (Ohemaa).
Sydney went solo in 2001 with his debut album, Tinana. which did so well on the market. His Sophomore album, Akofna in 2003 was even better. In 2004, the hit maker released ‘Scent No’ in the run up to Ghana’s election.
Sydney doubled up the controversy in his 2005 album. His “Obia nye obia” struck a timeless debate about equality in society and some other songs. He has also been involved in several educational projects in Ghana.
