Bator Chieftaincy Dispute: Ablakwa warns Factions against Reprisal Attacks

At least five people were killed and about 15 others injured in a violent chieftaincy dispute in Bator in the Volta Region about two weeks ago.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has advised factions in the Bator chieftaincy dispute to desist from engaging in reprisal attacks and show confidence in the investigation process.

In a Facebook post, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa who visited the families of those who lost their lives assured them that justice will be served.

“It’s been a really distressing day visiting families of the five constituents who lost their lives in the recent Battor chieftaincy dispute.

“I urged all to have confidence in ongoing investigations and not to engage in reprisal attacks. Victims deserve justice; Battor deserves peace,” Ablakwa posted on Facebook.

The police restored order in Bator in the Volta Region and arrested at least 15 suspects in connection with a violent chieftaincy dispute which resulted in the death of the five people and injury to others.

The injured victims are said to be responding to treatment while the bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the Bator Government Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation, a statement issued by the police on the issue has said.

The police have so far retrieved two locally manufactured single barrel guns, one locally manufactured pistol and a live BB cartridge from the suspects.

Security has since been beefed up within the Bator township and surrounding communities while the 15 suspects are in custody assisting in investigations, the police said.
