A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications team, Ellen Ama Daaku, has drawn criticism for suggesting the state should withdraw intervention efforts in the Bawku and Walewale conflicts, allowing residents to “kill themselves”.

Elleen Daaku made the comments when she appeared on Angel FM’s “Angel in the Morning” show on Monday, stating that the land could then be used for agricultural purposes.

“We have to get to a point that the state must leave them to kill themselves. If they are done killing each other then their land can be used to grow maize and millet to feed Ghanaians,” she said.

The Bawku conflict, a long-standing dispute, has caused escalating security concerns, resulting in the closure of several courts in the Upper East Region in October 2024.

Defense Minister Edward Omane Boamah has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring peace to Bawku and other conflict-prone areas through traditional means.
