Bawku: Many injured as soldiers and prison officers clash over missing phone
According to reports, some soldiers who were on duty providing security during the ceremony, confronted and beat to a pulp, one prisoner officer who was also on duty at the palace, over the missing phone.
Several individuals have been left injured in a violent clash between peacekeeping troops and prison officers in Bawku in the Upper East region.
The incident happened on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the Bawku Naba Palace when the overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area was inaugurating his 40-year reign as the Bawku Naba.
According to reports, some soldiers who were on duty providing security during the ceremony, confronted and beat to a pulp, one prisoner officer who was also on duty at the palace, over the missing phone.
The injured prison officer was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
In responding to the attack on their colleague, some Prison Officers also stormed the Bawku Naba Palace armed with guns, shot the military officers and beat them mercilessly.
The injured military personnel was however rushed to the Vineyard hospital in Bawku.
Reports further revealed that the police quickly rushed in to bring the situation under control and have since restored calm.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Military and Prison officers have taken steps to amicably resolve the matter.
