Branch Youth Organizer for the NPP-USA, Danny Opoku Antwi, has said that Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, could have secured 85% to 90% of the vote in the recent National Investigation Bureau (NIB) survey if votes from the diaspora had been included.

The survey, which engaged 5,116 NPP delegates nationwide, including national, regional, constituency, and polling station executives, showed that Dr. Opoku Prempeh is widely preferred to be the running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, with 76.2% of the responses.

“Given Dr. Prempeh’s widespread support, especially among our members abroad, I believe he could have secured 85% to 90% of the vote if the diaspora votes were counted,” Antwi told dailymailgh.com during a telephone interview.

“And it is clear that there is massive support for the Manhyia South lawmaker at the grassroots level and that for me will solidify the party’s chances when he is chosen”, he said.

Other notable personalities considered for the role include Apostle Opoku Onyinah, former Chairman of the Pentecost Church-Ghana, and Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Agriculture and MP for Abetifi Constituency.

With the 2024 general election just six months away, Dr. Bawumia faces the critical decision of choosing a running mate from among the party’s bigwigs.

But Mr Opoku Antwi believes the latest survey “will put matters to rest as the party race to break the 8 and indeed the voice of the people is the voice of God”.

“I think the survey should also include the diaspora to help candidates to make inform decisions”, he recommended.
