The battleground has obviously become tougher for the current Member of Parliament (MP) of the Bekwai Constituency, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu, to retain his seat in the December 7, 2020 General Elections.
Campaign activities by an independent candidate, Lawyer Kwasi Amofa-Agyemang, who has emerged on the scene to also contest the seat after being unreasonably disqualified by the party’s executives, seem to strangle and dwarf all campaign strategies of Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu.
With barely two and half months to the elections, facts gathered from the Constituency clearly indicate that the incumbent MP of Bekwai, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament has already lost the seat to the Independent Candidate.
Apparently, the people of Bekwai have massively turned their backs on Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu, and two key issues play into this.

Firstly, his almost absent level of interaction with the constituents and the unfulfilled campaign promises over the twelfth years of his stay in Parliament, and secondly, the alleged ongoing derogatory reference to people outside the Bekwai township as “villagers”, by members of his campaign team.
These issues have galvanized the people of Bekwai into pledging and staging unalloyed support on an almost daily basis throughout the Constituency by way of mini rallies by the Constituents themselves.
These rallies marked by hordes of the youth dancing to brass band music are most often without the attendance of the Independent Candidate to address them. And whenever he (Independent Candidate) appeared at the scene the jubilation was incredibly tumultuous.
Some political pundits have even advised that it would serve the MP a lot of good if he threw in the towel before the December, 7 2020 polls.
Tactically, the massage from Lawyer Amofa-Agyeman to the constituents has been one of helping them, when elected, to raise their agricultural activities to the mechanised level, as against the usual promises of road construction and other infrastructural developments, by aspiring parliamentarians.
