Berekum: Unidentified assailant shoots labourer maiming his arms, legs

A labourer has been shot and maimed by an unidentified assailant at Adiembra near Senase in the Berekum District of the Bono region.

According to the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector, Oppong Augustine, Adjei Kofi Thomas, 64 and an indigene of Senase reported to the police on Wednesday that he had information that about 2pm his labourer, Koo Red, residing at Adiembra near Senase in the Berekum District of the Bono region, suspected that some animals were destroying his crops so he decided to check, but he was shot by an unidentified assailant.

Koo Red, who was maimed in his left arm, legs and at his back, was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in Berekum for treatment.

Koo Red’s wife said she heard gunshot soon after her husband had left the house, so she raised an alarm and their neighbours rushed to the scene and found Koo Red, shot and lying in a pool of blood. The police are currently on a manhunt for the assailant.

Rumour was, however, rife that Koo Red was either mistaken for a game by the assailant or he went to steal some farm produce and he was shot while trying to escape.

“The police can’t deliver alone. We call on the public to help us with information to arrest the assailant to face justice,” Chief Inspector Oppong said.
