In a decisive victory at the just-ended People’s National Convention (PNC) Delegates Conference on Saturday, Bernard Mornah has been elected as the party’s Flagbearer for the 2024 general elections. Mornah secured 1,354 votes, comfortably defeating his closest rival, David Apasera, who garnered 216 votes.

Mornah, a former Chairman of the PNC, had earlier expressed confidence in winning, citing his political track record and contributions to the party. Speaking to the media after casting his vote, he vowed to be a “revolutionary president” who would be remembered for making local dialects a national language.

“I am the people’s President, and I am excited about the turn of events so far,” Mornah declared, underscoring his enthusiasm about the overwhelming support he received from delegates across the country.

The conference, which was delayed due to a legal challenge from Apasera’s camp, eventually proceeded after internal resolutions were made. Besides the flagbearer race, other positions were contested, including the Chairmanship. Samson Asaki Awingobit emerged victorious, defeating Hajia Hajara Ali, the acting Chairperson.

In his victory speech, Mornah called for unity within the party and emphasized the importance of working together to ensure success in the December 2024 elections. He reassured PNC members that his campaign would be focused on addressing key issues facing Ghanaians, including unemployment, healthcare, education, and corruption.

“My presidency will be Ghanaian-centered because Ghanaians deserve better jobs, better healthcare, better education, and better opportunities for all. We will work to make that vision a reality,” he said, adding that the campaign would hit the ground running despite the delayed start.
