Borteyman Sports Complex to be turned into University for Sports Dev’t – Sports Minister
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has indicated that the Borteyman Sports Complex, one of the venues for the 13th All African Games in Ghana, will be converted into a University purposely to ensure the development of Sports in the country after the event.
According to the Minister, the move by government is to ensure the continuous maintenance of the facility.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Monday, March 4, 2024, he stressed that it is the vision of President Akufo-Addo to ensure development of sports in Ghana.
“To ensure the facilities are well maintained for the continuous benefit for the good people of our country, the facilities at Borteyman will be converted to the university for sports for development after the games and I’ve mentioned it on countless occasion that the vision of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana is to ensure that ones we finish, we convert those facilities to a university for sports for development to ensure sustainability and legacy of these games,” he said.
$145 million multipurpose facility, contains a 1,000-seater capacity swimming pool, comprising a 10-lane competition swimming pool and an eight-lane warm-up swimming pool, alongside a multipurpose Sports Hall capable of seating 1,000 spectators for various events such as basketball, badminton, netball, table tennis, and weightlifting.
There’s also a five-tennis court complex, with a 1,000-seat Center Court, and a 500-seat temporary dome for handball, volleyball, judo, karate, taekwondo, fencing, and arm wrestling.
