BREAKING: Hopeson Adorye finally apologises for ‘Northerners fit for Vice Prez’ comment

The immediate Past NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Kpone-Katamanso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Hopeson Adorye has finally apologised for making comments that sought to connote that Northerners and Muslims in the NPP only qualify to be running mates.

Mr Adorye in a during a Health Walk organised in the Ashanti Region in honour of Alan Kyeremanteng reportedly ridiculed their status of Muslims and Northerners in the NPP, saying Dombos are always in the mix and are running mates to either a Danquah candidate or a Busia candidate so, that tradition must continue.

“There is one thing I am going to say. The NPP has a tradition. Our tradition is Busia, Danquah and Dombo. Danquah represents Eastern Region and the bottom (south), Danquah represents Ashanti Region and the Bono areas, while Dombo represents Northern Region,” Hopeson Adorye said.
He continued: “whenever a Dankwa leads the party, the Busia side step aside but there is a Dombo (for running mate), and whenever a Busia lead, the Dankwa side step aside but there is a Dombo (for running mate). As for the Dombos they are always there (for running mate).”

“In 1992, Albert Adu Boahen, who represented Dankwa contested with a Dombo. In 1996, we had the Great Alliance bit in 2000, it came to Kufuor, who is a Busia, and he runned with a Dombo (as his running mate). Then after Kufuor, it moved back to Dankwa, with President Akufo-Addo. He also contested the election with another Dombo (as his running mate), who is Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

If it went to Dankwa, cane to Busia, went back to Dankwa, where should it go now, is it not Busia?” Hopeson Adorye said.

The Alan man fired more salvos by urging the Ashanti Region and Asantes to vote for “one of their own”, Alan Kyeremateng to lead the NPP in 2024, because without Ashantis, the NPP cannot win any election in Ghana.

He had during various radio interviews on Monday Morning said he does not regret making the comments.

However, “upon reflection, I realize that my statement may either have been misunderstood and offended some patriots, or deliberately turned around by political opponents for their misguided intentions.”

He has therefore in the statement published below apologized for making the comments and appealed for forgiveness.
