Agric Minister, Bryan Acheampong has come under fire for his recent comments suggesting that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will use every means possible to win the upcoming December polls and retain power.

The Abetifi lawmaker while addressing a crowd of NPP supporters during a unity walk in Kwahu, said the NPP will use every possible means to win the December elections and urged anyone dissatisfied with the results from the polls to “go burn the sea.”

The Volta regional branch of the United Cadres Front (UCF) a group affiliated to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a statement signed by its regional chairman, Cde Samuel Adabla, said, it noted with grave concern the statements purportedly made by the Abetifi Member of Parliament and Minister of Agriculture.

“This latest incident is another episode of his and the NPP’s loose-mouthed statements made during their unity walk in Mpraeso in 2023 and again at the 2024 unity walk during the Kwahu Easter celebrations.

Furthermore, we are cognizant of President Akuffo Addo’s undemocratic pronouncement, “I will only hand over to an NPP government, I can’t hand over to Mahama.” It is utterly unbelievable to hear a President publicly make such unguarded statements,” the release said.

The statement added: “We must candidly admit our deep disappointment at the taciturn posture of the Peace Council and the Christian Council in the face of these distressing developments. We in the UCF emphatically condemn with the strongest of words such irresponsible and unmanly statements that seek to undermine the democracy and peaceful coexistence in Ghana, made by individuals who are remunerated with taxpayers’ money.

The NDC steadfastly upholds the rule of law in high esteem and won’t do anything to jeopardize our enviable democracy. We, however, wish to remind Bryan Acheampong and the NPP that until the fire is totally extinguished, let not the dog sleep in the hearth. When the drums of bravery were beaten, he and his hoodlums in the NPP were nowhere to be found.

The NDC is from a revolutionary background and won’t repeat the mistakes of 2020. We have not forgotten the casualties of the violence unleashed by Bryan Acheampong and his hoodlums in uniform on the innocent people of Ayawaso West Wuogon. The memories are still fresh in the minds of Ghanaians. It is only the desert monkey that stoops so low to be preyed upon by the dog,” the release said.

The release called on all well-meaning Ghanaians, Civil Society Organizations, the Christian Council, and the Peace Council to call Bryan Acheampong and the NPP to order in their own interest and “in the interest of peace and what we stand for.”

“No one will burn the sea, but the windy rainfall will tell where to locate one’s door. We assure Bryan Acheampong and the NPP that we won’t sit down with our hands folded but will defend the verdict of the people of Ghana with the last drop of our blood. We won’t allow the people’s verdict to be circumvented this time round. We would nip their sinister schemes in the bud.

In the spirit of the revolution, notice is hereby served to the NPP and Bryan Acheampong. Aluta continua. For God and country,” the statement said.
