C/R: Fire guts Assin Fosu new market; destroys items worth thousands of cedis
Fire has consumed shops and properties worth thousands of cedis at Assin Fosu new market in the Central Region.
The cause of the fire which occurred on Sunday is not immediately established but some eyewitnesses who spoke to Kasapa FM news Yaw Boagyan have blamed it on firecrackers (Knockouts) which were being displayed by some children.
According to them, three children between the ages of eight (8)and ten(10) were displaying the firecrackers at the early hours of Sunday morning in the market and unfortunately caught fire with a paper box, but they could not put it off due to lack of water.
About ten (10) shops have been destroyed including items such as foodstuffs, vegetable oils, as well as cosmetic products and clothes stored in the shops, many of which were constructed of wood and served as workplaces for some seamstresses.
Fifteen (15)sewing machines and knitting machines were also burnt. Although properties have lost, bystanders have rained Praises on Assin Fosu Fire Station Command for their brisk intervention which put the fire which was quickly spreading to rest. According to them, had it not been them, it could have quickly spread to the other areas of the market.
In an interview with Kasapa FM news Yaw Boagyan Assin Fosu Fire Station Officer One(1), Mr. Ernest Bruce said, the Fire Service is yet to establish the cause of the fire but has assured investigations has been launched. He, however, advised the general public to take fire safety precautions seriously to prevent fire outbreaks to shops and houses as we are in the dry season.
