The Minority Caucus in Parliament has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take immediate action and “call his thugs to order” following reports of post-election violence allegedly orchestrated by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the Minority, the violence, which occurred in several parts of the country, was allegedly spearheaded by prominent figures within the NDC, including Kofi Totobi Quakye, Col. (Rtd) Larry Darlo Lartey, and Malik Jabir. They claimed that these individuals were behind the unrest, particularly in the Ablekuma North constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

The Caucus pointed to a letter from the Electoral Commission, which they said confirmed the violent incidents that had taken place in the area. They alleged that these acts of violence were carried out by NDC-affiliated thugs, who disrupted the post-election period and created chaos in their wake.

In addition to the violence, the Minority expressed frustration over the failure of the police to enforce court orders mandating sufficient security in the constituency to ensure a smooth and safe reconciliation process. The Caucus accused the police of failing in their duty, which, they argued, allowed the thugs to carry out their violent activities unchecked, including the setting of fires.

Furthermore, the Minority called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to fulfill his responsibilities by arresting and prosecuting the individuals behind the violence. They stressed the importance of upholding peace, tranquility, and law and order in the country.
The Caucus’s statements reflect growing concern about the post-election environment and the need for a concerted effort to maintain stability and prevent further violence.
