Chairman Wontumi has been over pampered in NPP, I will fight him – KT Hammond

Member of Parliament for the Adansi Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region,  Kwabena Tahir Hammond (KT), has attacked the integrity and competence of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako (Chairman Wontumi) for failing to disqualify one of the candidates who is challenging him in the impending parliamentary primaries of the party in the constituency.

KT Hammond believes Chairman Wontumi is strongly behind machinations to push the said candidate, Sammy Binfoh Dakwa, who in his view is not qualified to contest in the primaries.

An angry KT Hammond told journalists in Parliament on Tuesday, that, Chairman Wontumi has been over pampered and so he feels he is the darling boy of President Akufo-Add.

“When we were  helping to establish the NPP in the past, where was Chairman Wontumi, he was nowhere to be found,” he stated.

KT Hammond was reacting to comments by Chairman Wontumi to the effect that he will ensure that Sammy Binfoh Dakwa passes all hurdles so he can contest the primaries in the constituency.

“Antwi Boasiako does nothing good for the party. When I KT Hammond was part of the founding fathers of the NPP where was he? I have been moving with President Akufo-Addo since 1996. Even when he wasn’t the President, I called him Mr President and so Wontumi should not think he is a darling boy of the president than me.

“We have seen better Ashanti regional chairmen like Antoh. Who are you to allow disqualified aspirants?” a furious KT Hammond stated.

“If the person is not disqualified, I will fight him to any level. For 20 years the guy is not known in the constituency, and this is the boy Antwi Boasiako said he will ensure he is allowed to contest. Who is he to say that?

“I have said that anybody who is qualified should be allowed to contest, but not when the person is not qualified.”

NPP will go to the polls on Saturday April 25 to elect parliamentary candidates in ahead of the December 7 General elections this year.
