Check out expiry dates on products before purchase – FDA tells public

James Lartey, Head of Communications at the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has cautioned the general public to check out expiry dates on all products before purchasing especially during the Christmas season.

He explained that unscrupulous persons are likely to flood the market with expired products during the yuletide.

Therefore, he said, consumers should be on the alert although the FDA will also play its part in dealing with the miscreants.

“Any change you notice with the expiry date don’t purchase,” he said when the FDA destroyed 802 cartons of expired lucozade energy drink at the Kpone landfill site on Saturday.

Touching on the expired lucozade drinks, he explained that the FDA in September this year, had information about a company named Andiana Royal Ventures at Lapaz, Accra, tempering with the expiring dates on some imported Lucozade energy drinks.

He revealed that the officers quickly moved into the said warehouse and arrested the perpetrators of that criminal activity.

“They have managed to change the expiring date of the product from September 2019 to September 2020, “he noted.
