Chief Bemoans Excessive Alcohol Intake In His Area
The Tufuhene of Ekumfi Nana Amoah Sekyi III has bemoaned the abuse of alcohol by youth in the area.
The traditional leader says he is worried at the spate at which alcoholism has become a practice among the youth.
He raised the concern during a festival held in the community over the weekend.
Speaking in a separate interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the chief said his call generally went to the youth of Ghana but most importantly, to his people.
He said alcoholism deprives youth of job opportunities and decent life.
He stressed on the need for them to invest the money they spend on alcoholism on better investments.
As the festive season draws near, he advised drivers to refrain from drunk driving.
He has warned his sub-chiefs to refrain from excessive alcohol or be destooled.
This he noted will serve as a deterrent for the youth in the area.
It is estimated that 23.3% of Ghanaians use alcohol, and of these some 2.1% were found to be engaging in heavy alcohol use.
Per capita consumption of alcohol among heavy users stood at 20 liters per year.
