Chief Imam Commends AcrossFaiths Foundation Ghana for Organizing Historic World Harmony Week

The National Chief Imam, Dr. Sheik Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has commended the executives and members of AcrossFaiths Foundation Ghana for successfully organizing the 2025 edition of the United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week in the country.

Declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2010, World Interfaith Harmony Week is observed annually during the first week of February to promote dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among people of different faiths. The 2025 edition marks the first time Ghana has officially commemorated this global event, with AcrossFaiths Foundation Ghana spearheading the initiative.

The week-long event, observed globally from February 1st to 7th, aims to foster peace, unity, and cooperation among diverse religious communities. Its observance in Ghana comes at a crucial time when the world is grappling with religious tensions and environmental crises, emphasizing the significance of interfaith collaboration in addressing societal challenges.

The commemoration brought together Christians, Muslims, and traditional authorities under one umbrella to worship and promote mutual respect, regardless of religious affiliations. This initiative aligns with efforts to contribute to national peace and development through interfaith harmony.

Beyond worship sessions, symposiums were organized for selected basic and secondary schools in Accra to engage young people on the values of religious tolerance and harmony. These symposiums provided a platform for students to learn from religious leaders and scholars about the importance of coexistence in a diverse society.

Further highlighting the intersection between faith and environmental stewardship, the Foundation launched the “Interfaith Action Against Climate Change” initiative. As part of this initiative, students, teachers, members of the clergy, and traditional leaders participated in a symbolic tree-planting exercise aimed at inspiring faith communities to take active roles in environmental protection.

The recognition by the National Chief Imam underscores the foundation’s efforts in promoting peace, unity, and harmony among different faiths in Ghana. AcrossFaiths Foundation has been at the forefront of interfaith dialogue and cooperation, working closely with representatives from various religious groups, including the Christian Council, Traditional Councils, and the Office of the National Chief Imam.

The foundation’s commitment to fostering a culture of tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect aligns with the National Chief Imam’s advocacy for religious harmony among all faith practitioners. By acknowledging AcrossFaiths Foundation’s efforts, the National Chief Imam reinforces the importance of interfaith collaboration in promoting national cohesion and lasting peace.
