Chinese National Shot Dead

A police statement, which confirmed the incident and sighted by the paper, said the runaway killers did not take away any valuable from the Chinese national.

A 52-YEAR-old Chinese national has been shot dead at Manso Watereso in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, Yao Xian, was reportedly shot in the chest by some unknown assailants while riding a motorbike around 11am on August 30, 2024.

Three suspects, who are believed to be workers of Xian, a miner, have been apprehended by the police on suspicion of having a hand in the murder of the Chinese man.

They are Kwadwo Mensah, aged 32, Robert Agyei, aged 29, and Abdullah Mohammed, aged 45.

A police statement, which confirmed the incident and sighted by the paper, said the runaway killers did not take away any valuable from the Chinese national.

“On 30/08/2024 at about 1100 hours, the information had it a Chinese National had been shot at Watreso. Based on the information police proceeded to the scene of the crime at Manso Watreso.

“On arrival at the scene, a Chinese national clad in a club t-shirt over black trousers was found in a nearby bush on the Watreso motor road with a deep hole alleged to have been sustained from a gunshot in the chest.

“The Chinese national was identified by his colleagues as Yao Xian aged 52. Spot enquiries had it that the victim was riding a motorbike at Manso Watreso and was shot in the chest,” a police report disclosed.

The police said searches were conducted in the respective rooms of the suspects and found one pump action gun No. ASAR 2883 2014 with seven rounds of live AA ammunition from suspect Robert Agyei.

According to the statement, Robert Agyei, told police that the said gun had not been fired before, “but inspection and examination on the gun proved it had been fired”.
