Official: Teaching Council to begin Licencesing of Teachers in May

The National Teaching Council (NTC) will from May 2021 commence the issuance of licenses and registration numbers to all qualified teachers in the Ghana Education Service (GES) as well as those in private institutions.

The exercise forms part of the processes for teacher professionalization in the country.

This was contained in a communique issued by the council on Thursday April 14, signed by its registrar Christian Addai-Poku and copied to the Minister of Education, the Chief Director of the Education Ministry as well as all Teacher Unions.

The communique which was sighted by ghananewsonline.com.gh said all qualified teachers who were employed before September 1, 2018, are required to log on to the NTC’s Teacher Portal Ghana via tpg.ntc.gov.gh to register. I added that the deadline for the registration on the portal is May 7, 2021.

The communique also stated that all teachers who were employed after August 31, 2018 are required to pass the Ghana Teacher Licensure Exams to merit the license and registration numbers.

It further noted that all qualified teachers who fail to avail themselves for the exercise shall loose their right to practice in Ghana in accordance with section 64(1) of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020,Act 1023.
