Closure of Radio XYZ: Speaker of Parliament petitioned

Management of XYZ Broadcasting Limited, owners of Radio XYZ (93.1) have petitioned the office of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Honorable Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye in a bid to having the radio station restored.

The NCA on Thursday, May 9 stormed the Adjiringanor office of the station and demanded their closure over license issues.

The NCA’s act has been widely condemned by thousands of Ghanaians, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) as well some civil society organisations.

But since the NCA has not responded positively, the station had to petition Prof. Oquaye.

In its petition, the station indicated that “it is our respectful view that apart from the NCA’s selectivity in dealing with the matter, the Authority also erred in its action as there were clear legal and procedural breaches in closing down our station.”
