Construction works are set to begin on a 100km inner city and ring roads in Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti region in December 2019, Spokesperson to the Vice President, Dr. Gideon Boako has stated.

Speaking on a Kumasi based radio station, Hello Fm early this week, Dr. Boako indicated that following Cabinet’s approval early this year for a €55 million facility for the rehabilitation of a 100km road network and provision of traffic management and pedestrian safety facilities for some communities in the Ashanti Region to improve socio-economic activities, government has awarded some selected roads for construction to begin next month.

“The facility is a credit agreement between the Ghana Government and the Deutsche Bank meant for auxiliary infrastructure of the Kumasi Inner-city roads. Government has gone through the necessary processes, including securing parliamentary approval and the projects have been awarded to CONTRACTA CONSTRUCTION, a UK Construction firm,” Dr. Boako explained.

“The rehabilitation of those roads in the aforementioned towns and communities is in accordance with government’s recognition of good road infrastructure as a critical facilitator of rapid socio-economic development,” Dr. Boako indicated.

The completion of the project, he said, would reduce waiting and traveling times within the Kumasi Metropolis and subsequently alleviate poverty and enhance the overall development of the area.

Dr. Boako has also indicated that construction works on an additional 100km of inner-city roads in Kumasi will also commence next year under the Sinohydro Infrastructure facility.
