COP Chairman Assures Journalists of Scholarship Support
“We have come to congratulate you on your election to the high office and to assure you that you have our support as you seek to transform this Association”,
The Chairman of Church of Pentecost Apostle Eric Nyamekye has re-iterated the Pentecost Church’s readiness to support the development of the media and Journalists through Scholarship support.
According to him, the contributions of Journalists in nation development and the church in particular can not be overemphasized hence the need to support the Ghanaian media to do more.
Apostle Nyamekye made the disclosure when he paid a courtesy call on the newly elected GJA Executives at the Press Centre in Accra on Tuesday (9th August 2022).
“We have come to congratulate you on your election to the high office and to assure you that you have our support as you seek to transform this Association”, the revered Apostle said.
The Pentecost Chairman who later touched on the Prison the Church built at Ejura in the Ashanti region that attracted backlash from the public explained that “Prisoners are our client we are here on the planet with sinners as our clients”.
He said the Church could not have built school or hospital as the public clamoured because the Church had already built the aforementioned maintaining that building of the Prison did not mean the Church takes delight in people going to prison.
Apostle Nyamekye, in that regard appealed to the public to treat prisoners with decency since they need more of our support to reform.
He also revealed that the Church has built another prison within the Nsawam Prison but bigger than the previous one adding that it is ready to be launched on the 23rd of August 2022.
He indicated that the Prison has facilities like schools for prisoners to write BECE and WASSCE, and Skills Training to enable prisoners to acquire skills whilst in Prison.
He also announced their impending non-Denominational Conference which he said comes off the on 13th -16th September 2022 at the Pentecost Convention Center at Kasoa Millennium City adding that the purpose is to bring churches together to impact the nation.
The GJA President Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour himself a proud member of the Church commended the Church for the myriad of developmental and social intervention projects it has undertaken so far.
He said he was amazed with the kind of projects the Church has undertaken stressing that those projects are the meaning for the Church’s theme “ possessing the nation”.
The GJA President however emphasized that what was missing aside the good works of the church was the collaboration with the media.
“You have done great projects but one thing missing is the collaboration with the media.
The church can collaborate with the media to build the capacity of Journalists”, he said.
What we’ve realized is that during elections the church community preaches to bring peace so we are appealing that as part of your CSR you can collaborate with the GJA on peace and capacity building
We want to deepen this relationship we want to be seen doing things together
Let’s see ourselves as partners for development and partnerships with Journalists is very key” Mr. Dwumfour emphasized.
